Prepping for the Zurich Show

I'm excited my art made it all the way to Zurich and in the hands of some very generous and talented people...here's my art being measured for framing...more to come...

Open Heart Part 2

Following my Open Heart post is the final heart necklace post inspired by a necklace given to me by my mother.  I especially loved the bursts of color on the necklace which gives it an artistic whimsy...The original had a rabbit and peacock design on each side, but I thought I'd add my own design of fresh blossoms in hopes of ushering in the spring season sooner...

Palm Springs and Things

I had an amazing experience in Palm Springs this past weekend for the first time.  The best part was just enjoying the beautiful outdoors...from the sunny, warm 70 degrees weather to 30 degree chili-ness.

Hairy Mask

My hair is long. I need a hair cut, seriously. Or do it? I dunno.

What I do know is hair is so amazing when it's long because you can do so much with it, put it in a bun, curl, braid, straighten, leave it be....and more. I've been inspired lately by a flood of really cool disheveled braided designs which are effortless, put together and sophisticated... here's one of my pencil projects...

Open Heart

Inspired by the month, I'm mustering up my last ounce of energy for the night to share with you my upcoming inspiration...This is one of my favorite gold necklaces that belonged to my mother when she was my age...it's absolutely beautiful, whimsical, precious...and I'm not going to show you what it looks like just yet.... :)  BUT...stay tuned...all I can wonder is...what did she put in the locket before? A secret note? Her love's picture to always remember him by? Hmm I still don't know for sure... In the meantime...bask in this month's celebration of love and appreciation...

Food coma

A record week of cooking and baking for me including:
Turkey burgers
Bangers and Mash
Two dozen blueberry chocolate muffins
Chicken vegetable soup
Heirloom tomato salad
Mushroom, celery and parsley salad with lemon vinaigrette
Tomato soup
So it was only natural to draw a gentlebot picture paying homage to food today :)

New Years Part 2

I love celebrating two new years almost back to back.  Yup, Chinese New Year is on it's way and it's more exciting than ever with the year of the dragon. I just got back from London and it was pretty cool to see the streets littered in preparation of the new year with red and gold decorations, red envelopes, figurines, you name it, all for sale to bring good luck for the new year.

Nothing like starting off the new year with my new watercolor moleskine compliments of my wonderful bf. I'm diggin the size of the moleskine and the heavyweight paper.  I always love the color of lanterns and I remember my grandma teaching me how to make ribbon lanterns out of this beautiful gold rimmed ribbon stringed with beads and bells.  I'll dig up a picture later but in the meantime...voila! Lantern time :)... Creative Commons License

Cozy

It's that time of year when it's chilly and windy...and all you want to do is stay snug in your bed with a cup of hot chocolate...well that's me anyway...:) Here's a quick sketch tonight...something I haven't done in a while..inspired by the new Anthropologie catalog. I love the way their clothes are unique, luxurious but still effortless. The mix of patterns and textures are wonderful...

Dream a little dream....

I don't even know the words to describe how I feel right now. I finished hanging my artwork with the amazing team yesterday in one of our fabulous cafes at work. There was a crew to help me unwrap, prep and hang my art. I call this collection 'Dream a little dream...' because this has been a year long journey, drawing weekly, collecting feedback, finding my style, to finally come up with a collection that reflects the most influential parts of my life. I've chosen 11 pieces (one more on the way) that represent different parts of my journey. Some ideas come from my mother's stories of Chinese bird cages in tea houses, to my dream of living in a castle, to fashionable funny times as a child building towers out of playing cards. These are just a few things that tickle my fancy among many other things. It's truly a dream just to share my work with the world and to hopefully conjure up some dreams along the way... Big thanks to Alice, Chris, Mike, Heather and to all the usuals Opening to come...let me know what you think or if you'd like to attend...:)
