ABOUT ME
Biography
Born in California, Natalie Woo was immersed in creativity influenced by a rich cultural heritage and a deep appreciation for storytelling through art. Raised in a multicultural Chinese and American household, she found inspiration in the traditions and personal narratives that shaped her identity. As she embraces a career as a visual artist, Woo explores multiple creative disciplines, including illustration, and creative strategy in her current role at Google. Her diverse background allows her to weave themes of cultural heritage, nature, and self-discovery into her work.
Woo’s journey as an artist is largely self-directed, shaped by an intuitive approach to color, composition, and storytelling. Through years of experimentation and refinement, she developed her signature style—characterized by fluid, organic forms, and vibrant yet harmonious palettes. Her work bridges the traditional and contemporary, often blending personal nostalgia with a modern sensibility. She has collaborated with various clients, honing her craft while maintaining a distinct, deeply personal aesthetic.
Now based in the San Francisco Bay Area, Woo creates paintings, and illustrations that celebrate beauty, heritage, and human connection. Her art has been featured by the White House, an Olympic athlete and coach, Google offices worldwide, and private collectors seeking unique pieces that transform spaces with meaning. She believes that art should not only be visually captivating but also tell a story—one that resonates deeply with its audience and fosters a sense of belonging.
Artist Statement
My work is an exploration of the delicate balance between heritage, memory, and emotion and is an invitation—to slow down, to remember, and to reconnect. Rooted in my Chinese, French, and American influences, I strive to create art that serves as both a celebration of cultural storytelling and a meditation on the present moment. Each piece reflects the dynamic interplay of tradition and modernity, inviting the viewer to slow down and connect with the deeper narratives embedded in everyday life.
My creative journey is deeply rooted in the belief that beauty has the power to ground us. Whether through rituals, playful floral motifs, or whimsical storytelling elements, I seek to capture the energy and emotion of a moment rather than a literal representation. My process is layered and immersive: I draw from childhood memories, my Chinese, American and French blended family, the patterns of nature, and the vibrancy of everyday life, blending them into compositions that feel both familiar and dreamlike.
I am drawn to the fluidity and elegance of Chinese ink painting, the ornate yet restrained aesthetic of French design, and the bold, expressive spirit of American contemporary art. These influences shape my approach to color, movement, and composition, allowing me to craft pieces that feel simultaneously timeless and fresh.
I am especially drawn to themes of heritage and identity. As someone who straddles multiple cultural influences, my work serves as a bridge between tradition and modernity. I believe that art can be a vessel for preserving stories—stories that deserve to be told, remembered, and celebrated. Memories of visiting family in Hong Kong, learning Wing Chun martial arts with my father, and traveling to the South of France every summer with my husband all contribute to my creative inspiration.
Painting, for me, is an act of meditation and discovery. It is a way of honoring the past while making space for the present. I hope my work encourages others to pause, take a breath, and find moments of connection within the art—whether it evokes a childhood memory, a sense of nostalgia, or simply an appreciation for beauty in its purest form.
By capturing these moments, I hope to create work that not only adorns spaces but also enriches lives. Because in a world that often moves too fast, art is a gentle reminder to look deeper, to feel more, and to hold onto the things that truly matter.
